The 机械 and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) Department offers an undergraduate program leading to a Bachelor of Science in 机械 Engineering. The program is accredited by the Engineering 认证 Commission (EAC) of ABET, http://www.教唆.org. The Department is among the most basic of all engineering programs, with a curriculum that embraces the major areas of power, 设计, and fluid or solid mechanics. Seniors may enroll in one of three concentration areas: power/energy conversion, mechanical systems/设计, and aerospace engineering. The program is 设计ed to prepare its graduates to achieve the program education objectives (PEOs) listed below. 这些目标, consistent with the mission statements of the department, 大学, 和大学, are achieved by preparing the students to attain the seven student outcomes listed below.

To establish themselves as successful professionals in the general areas of thermal/fluid systems, mechanical systems and 设计, and materials and manufacturing in industry and government settings by demonstrating their ability to:

  1. Conduct themselves consistently in a responsible, professional and 道德 manner.
  2. Participate in continuing education, research and development, and in other lifelong creative efforts in science and technology.
  3. Lead others in support of activities that promote service to, and 经济 development of, 社区, 该地区, 国家与民族.
  4. To successfully pursue and complete graduate programs in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering or a related field if they so desire.

 

机械 Engineering Student Outcomes

Our mechanical engineering graduates must attain:

  1. Proficiency in mathematics, calculus-based physics, and engineering science, and the ability to apply knowledge in these areas to identify, 制定, and solve mechanical engineering problems.
  2. An ability to 设计 an engineering system, 组件, or process to meet specified needs within realistic constraints such as 经济, 环境, 社会, 道德, 公共卫生, 安全, 可制造性, 和可持续性.
  3. An ability to effectively present ideas and technical material to diverse audiences visually, 口头上, 在书面上.
  4. An ability to recognize professional and 道德 responsibilities, and to acquire the broad education necessary to make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in a global, 经济, 环境, and societal context.
  5. An ability to function effectively as a member of a team whose members together provide leadership, 建立目标, plan tasks to meet deadlines, and create a collaborative and inclusive environment.
  6. An ability to 设计 and conduct experiments, and to critically analyze and interpret data to draw conclusions in various mechanical engineering areas.
  7. An ability to recognize the ongoing need to acquire and apply new knowledge as needed.
