The Institute for the Study of 种族和民族 (ISRE) promotes high quality teaching and rigorous policy-oriented RESEARCH emphasizing interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches, as well as the methods of the traditional 社会 sciences and humanities disciplines.
The Institute seeks to establish as a major archive and RESEARCH center in the southeast United States focusing on the experiences of African-Americans.

About African American and African Studies
African-American Studies (or Black Studies) is rooted in the 社会 movements led by African-Americans in the 1960's. 在这场斗争中, debates regarding the structure and goals of material that were taught inside the standard college classroom soon led to the advent of Black Studies programs at various colleges and universities. ODU's African American and African Studies Programs
